Troop 642 Backyard Camp out

On May 22 2020, the troop participated in backyard camping. Because of the Corona Virus pandemic scouts weren’t able to get camping nights for rank advancement so the scoutmasters helped the boys by giving them a chance to get extra camping nights.

It seems like all the boys had a lot of fun doing a camp out in their backyard. Not only was it fun but the boys got camping nights out of it too. The boys also had to make their own food which looked like it turned out really good for everyone.

Lastly, the camp out was over and everyone had a lot of fun doing it. Hopefully there will be more camp outs like this one in the future.

Nathan Doctors Eagle Project

On February 15-16 The scouts participated in Nathan Doctors Eagle Project. We began digging holes at the backbone trail park so we could reinstall the information kiosk. We also built a new picnic bench for people to eat or relax after a hike.

So many boys showed up and we were able to get the job done really quickly. We had to make sure the holes were dug deep in which would’ve taken a really long time if there weren’t as many people that showed up. Now thanks to everyone’s help Nathan Doctor is very close to getting his eagle scout so thank you to everyone who came out and helped us.

Troop 642 Open House

On February 6th 2020, our troop hosted an open house for new scouts who want to join the troop. We had many activity’s for the new scouts to show them all what scouting’s truly about. We had many different activity’s such as teaching them how to set up tents if they didn’t already know how to, first aid, and at the end the new scouts even got to have some funnel cake.

These kids had a lot of fun here and we really hope this got many new kids interested in joining our troop but overall this open house was a huge success.

Troop Halloween Party

On October 24 2019, our troop hosted a Halloween party for new kids who want to join our troop. We had many fun activities for the new kids to enjoy such as bobbing for apples, ring toss, and more. It seems like these kids had a lot of fun doing these activities and we hope to do more events like this in the future.

Because of events like this we got many new kids to join our troop which means it was a huge success and we can do more events like this one in the future.

Philmont

From July 15-29 Scouts could go to Philmont, a trek in which scouts would hike for 2 weeks. Philmont seems like it was a lot of fun for all the boys who went on it.

Although it may sound like a lot of work, it was actually a lot of fun getting to hang out and talk with your friends for multiple weeks.

All the boys who went on this camp out had a lot of fun and we hope to do more treks like this one in the future.

Camporee

On April 26-28 Troop 642 went to camporee. On this outing we got to do many different activities like shooting, first aid, and lashings.

Our troop did very well this camporee as we were able to take home 20 awards. The cobra patrol won 9 awards, the frog patrol won 5 awards, the falcons won 3 awards, the buffalo won 2 awards, and our troop won one podrace.

This camp out was a great experience and this was the first camp out that the girl troop went on and although they didn’t win any awards they still had a great time.

Camporee Prep

On April 5th through the 7th Troop 642 went on a campout at El Capitan to prepare for camporee. The scouts worked on first aid, knots and everything else they needed to prepare for camporee.

The scouts stayed 2 nights then left Sunday so now they are ready for Camporee. All the scouts had a lot fun getting prepared and they are more ready then ever for these events.

Garrett Green Eagle Project

On December 15th and 16th 2018, Troop 642 helped out with Garrett Green’s Eagle project. We were working with him to put new dirt and concrete and french drains in the front yard of the American Legion. Many scouts showed up and it was a fun Eagle Project all around.

It’s always nice to help somebody get their Eagle especially when it is located where we have our troop meetings. The legion hall now looks much nicer because of this and all the scouts now know that they helped with something very important.

Thank you to everyone who came out to help us with this important project.

Troop 642 food drive

On December 8th and 9th 2018, the troop held a food drive thru. The event was originally scheduled to November but was delayed to December because of the Woolsey Fire. The troop teamed up with the West Valley food pantry to make this event happen. In this event people would bring bags of food then drive through the parking lot and drop off the food bags.

This event was a huge success as we managed to gather 24,371 pounds of food. Many Cub Scouts, Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts came out to help with the event, bringing us closer to the success.

The food drive thru was able to get sponsored by Lamborghini LA so thank you very much for helping us bring people in.

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped us reach this number of food.
